In the Kurinda Adolescent Service young people who have become isolated from their families and who have developed mental disorders are assisted with family re-union, schooling and other skills training while learning about how to live with the disabling effects of their disorders. Adolescents are encouraged to participate in structured activities with school, work or TAFE attendance during the day. Regular individual reviews provide an opportunity to discuss performance and look to areas requiring more encouragement. The service is an integral part of mental health services in Western Sydney Area Health Service.
