What we do
Aftercare supports over 600 people living in the Sydney Metropolitan Region and Western Sydney to Katoomba and Lithgow. Services are funded by the NSW Department of Health and the NSW Department of Ageing Disability and Home Care and other grants that may be obtained for specific projects.
Aftercare has proudly provided these services for people with mental disorders (primarily people with mental illness or an intellectual disability and other complex needs) since 1907.
We do this by:
- Helping people to build on their independence in their chosen communities
- Supporting young people to grow into more confident adults
- Strengthening family and friendship networks
- Creating new ways to enjoy social and recreational activities in the community
- Supporting people in their educational and work experiences
- Exploring and participating in research and development pathways
- Providing strong corporate services
- Training new workers and encouraging staff to participate in on-going learning
