Main Function of the Organisation

Aftercare exists in order to support people with mental disorders live a valued life in their chosen communities through the provision of high quality and timely service to our clients.

What We Believe
  • People with mental disorders have a right to be participating members of a community that recognises that good health is about each person's psychological, emotional and spiritual needs
  • People using the services provided by the organisation and their families have the right to actively participate in the planning and delivery of these services
  • The use of socially inclusive practices, including affirmative action and equal employment opportunity, providing equitable and fair distribution of access and resources
  • The potential for constructive planning through collaboration, not competition with like minded organisations and individuals
  • Effective, transparent and accountable management processes that must be adhered to at all times
  • Opposition to discrimination and prejudice based on race, creed, gender, age, sexuality, disability/ability, income, social and political associations, marital status, geographic location and position in society
  • Ethical and non-exploitative research practices

Key Priorities

  • Service delivery:   High quality accessible rehabilitation, recovery and skills based learning services based on best practice standards and driven by the needs of people with mental disorders, that is people who have a mental illness, an intellectual disability and/or other complex needs
  • Working with others: to inform, engage, support and influence public policy to connect people with mental disorders to supports and services
  • Good governance: Effective, efficient and transparent governance and management practices
  • Organisational change and review: Research, innovation and organisational change

The Role of Aftercare Clients/Consumers in Service Provision

Aftercare engages clients/consumers in both formal and informal processes at each level of service provision to ensure that their views are central to planning, monitoring and evaluating of its services.

Each person within Aftercare participates with staff and other interested persons to create an individual plan of support and learning to assist them in strengthening their place in the community of their choice.
